Life Chiropractic College West sits in Hayward, California, on the east side of the San Francisco Bay — about half an hour from Oakland and San Francisco, in one of the most concentrated chiropractic regions in the world. The program runs on a quarter system, and as of January 2026, Life West also operates an additional education site in Bellevue, Nebraska, giving the college a Bay Area campus and a Midwest option under one program.

That gives us a bias worth naming. It also gives us something better than a brochure: years of conversations about what studying there is actually like.
The program at a glance
Life West's Doctor of Chiropractic program is a year-round, quarter-based program at the Hayward campus. It runs 14 quarters, about three and a half years. Confirmed directly by Ben Glass, DC (Life West '12; former faculty), September 2026 — the college’s own pages state the length inconsistently, so this figure is sourced from someone who went through the program rather than from any single page. The DC program is accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, and the Council placed it on Probation effective August 4, 2026 — see the accreditation note below. Current status is always listed at cce-usa.org. Within the profession, Life West is known for its vitalistic, philosophy-forward orientation and a strong technique culture, and the campus hosts The WAVE, one of the profession's larger annual gatherings, drawing practicing doctors and students from around the world every summer.
Accreditation status
The program is accredited, and it is on probation. Both are true at once, and the Council’s own wording makes that explicit. Its July 2026 action was “Continued with sanction of probation,” and the Public Disclosure Notice it published on August 4, 2026 opens by stating that the program “is accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE). As of the above date, the Program has been placed on Probation.”
Three things are worth being plain about, because this is the part that gets garbled second-hand:
1. Accreditation continues
Probation is a sanction applied to an accredited program. It is not a withdrawal of accreditation, not a suspension, and not a teach-out. Students enrolled in the program are enrolled in a CCE-accredited program.
2. It is capped at 24 months
The Council’s notice states that probation “is a sanction, is subject to appeal” and “shall not exceed two years.” It cannot quietly run on. (A four-year ceiling applies instead where the noncompliance is a failure to meet a student-outcomes threshold under Standard 2.A.4 and CCE Policy 56. That is not the basis here.)
3. The review point is already fixed
Progress reports are due December 1, 2026 and February 1, 2027. A focused site visit is required in spring 2027. At its July 2027 meeting the Council reviews the February 2027 progress report, the spring 2027 site team report and the program’s response, and decides whether probation can be removed or whether other action is appropriate.
What the probation is for. The Council found significant noncompliance in eight areas: integrity; student admissions; curriculum, competencies and outcomes assessment; curricular content and delivery; assessment of learning outcomes and curricular effectiveness (three separate findings); and quality patient care. It separately flagged CCE Policy 56 licensing exam performance as an area of deficiency to be monitored.

Checked September 22, 2026. Accreditation status changes in both directions — Life University carried a probation sanction into 2025 and had it removed in January 2026 — so check the Council before you rely on anything here.
The Bellevue, Nebraska site. Life West also operates an additional educational site in Bellevue, Nebraska. The Council approved Life West’s application for that site in August 2024 and set a timeline of a self-study report in fall 2025 and a comprehensive site visit in spring 2026; no accreditation award for the Bellevue site appears in the Council’s published announcements through August 2026, and Life West’s own Nebraska campus page does not state one. Ask the college directly about that site’s current status before you enroll there.

Like most US programs, admission is built on undergraduate science coursework.
