Choosing a chiropractic school is a seven-year decision wearing a one-application disguise. Schools differ in philosophy, technique emphasis, calendar structure, and campus culture — and those differences shape what kind of doctor you become. This index exists so you can see the whole landscape in one place and compare by fit instead of by whoever bought the ad at the top of your search.

When you are down to a shortlist, the Kaleidoscope, a directory ChiroTrack maintains, lets you compare up to four chiropractic programs side by side on what each one publishes about cost, accreditation, length and board performance. Every cell links to the page it came from, and nothing is scored or ranked.

Accreditation of US programs is granted by the Council on Chiropractic Education — always confirm current status at cce-usa.org. Chiropractic schools by state

Every US state and territory with the main campus of a CCE-accredited Doctor of Chiropractic program has a page, plus Pennsylvania, where a program is seeking accreditation, and Tennessee, which has none. (Nebraska has no page of its own: CCE lists Bellevue, Nebraska as an additional educational site of Life Chiropractic College West, whose main campus is in California.) Each page carries what the schools there publish about themselves and how licensure actually works in that state.

Chiropractic schools map

Every CCE-accredited Doctor of Chiropractic location in the United States and Puerto Rico. Each point is a link to that state’s page. Nothing on the map is colored or sized by quality, because accreditation is a threshold and not a ranking — the only distinction drawn is between a program’s main campus and the additional sites CCE lists for that same program.

The map shows the contiguous United States, with Puerto Rico inset at a larger scale. No CCE-accredited program is located in Alaska or Hawaii. The points are the locations the Council on Chiropractic Education’s own directory lists for its accredited programs, read October 12, 2026, and the program names and city names are written as CCE writes them. Each point is placed at the street address the U.S. Department of Education’s DAPIP register holds for that CCE-accredited unit, read the same day and geocoded by the U.S. Census Bureau. Two exceptions. DAPIP holds no CCE-accredited record for Keiser University, so that point sits at the West Palm Beach address CCE itself publishes in its February 13, 2026 announcement. And for four addresses the Census geocoder returned no match, so those points sit at the Census Bureau’s center point for the city (Campbellsville, Kentucky; Boiling Springs, South Carolina; Bayamon, Puerto Rico; Bellevue, Nebraska). Two places where the registers and the schools differ: CCE lists Campbellsville University’s program at Campbellsville, Kentucky, while the university publishes its School of Chiropractic address in Harrodsburg; and CCE lists Sherman College at Spartanburg while DAPIP holds a Boiling Springs street address for the same campus. DAPIP also still holds CCE-accredited location records for Palmer’s San Jose, California campus and Cleveland’s Los Angeles campus, neither of which is in CCE’s directory; neither is on the map.

How to actually choose

Here's the honest version that came out of our interviews: students don't struggle because they picked a "bad" school. They struggle when the school's center of gravity doesn't match theirs. Some schools are philosophy-forward. Some are integrative-clinical. Some are technique cultures. None of that shows up in a search result — it shows up when you visit, when you shadow nearby, and when you talk to students who are already there.

How many chiropractic schools are there in the US?

The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) accredits 19 Doctor of Chiropractic programs. Eighteen are in the United States — 17 in US states and one in Puerto Rico — and one is in Canada. A 20th, at the University of Pittsburgh, is seeking accreditation and does not hold accredited status. CCE states 21 program locations in its own summary material, while its published directory lists 23 campus sites, because several programs teach at more than one site. We have not resolved which location figure is current, and we say so rather than pick one.

How many chiropractic schools are in Canada?

Two: Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, which teaches in English, and the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), which teaches in French. Both are accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education Canada (CCEC), and CMCC also holds CCE accreditation.

What accreditation should a chiropractic school have?

In the US: accreditation by the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE). Internationally, the regional agency for that part of the world. The Councils on Chiropractic Education International lists three member agencies in good standing on its own Accrediting Bodies page, read October 12, 2026: the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia (CCEA), the European Council on Chiropractic Education (ECCE), and the Council on Chiropractic Education Canada (CCEC).

Can I become a chiropractor by studying outside the US?

Yes — accredited programs operate in Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Asia. If you plan to practice in a specific country, confirm that country's licensure requirements before choosing a program.

Which chiropractic school is best?

There's no universal "best" — there's best for you. Fit comes from philosophy, technique culture, geography, and calendar. That's why this index compares by facts, not rankings.

Are there official chiropractic school rankings?

No. No accrediting body, and no part of the US Department of Education, ranks Doctor of Chiropractic programs. The rankings you find in search results are built by commercial aggregators using their own weightings. This index does not rank, because ordering by a reported figure is a fact and a verdict is not. If you want a figure to order by, median federal debt and four-year earnings are published program by program on the Findings page.

What is the Council on Chiropractic Education?

The CCE is the agency that accredits Doctor of Chiropractic degree programs in the United States. It describes itself as the agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for that purpose. It publishes its accreditation actions twice a year, including sanctions, at cce-usa.org. The accreditation page has the Department’s own wording, the current sanctions and how to check a program yourself.

Can you go to chiropractic school online?

The accreditor’s standards set requirements for courses a program offers by distance education, and require clinical hours in the clinical workplace. The Council on Chiropractic Education’s Accreditation Standards (July 2026) have a section titled “Distance Education (if applicable)”, which says the program “ensures that students who participate in courses offered via distance education receive equivalent learning and engagement opportunities as those in face-to-face courses.” The same standards say: “Students must complete a minimum of 1,000 instructional hours in the clinical workplace under appropriate supervision, where patient care and clinical decision-making are central components.” Source: CCE Accreditation Standards, July 2026, checked October 7, 2026.

Is there a list of every accredited chiropractic school?

Yes, and it is on this page. Nineteen Doctor of Chiropractic programs hold Council on Chiropractic Education accreditation: 17 in US states, one in Puerto Rico and one in Canada. Accredited programs outside North America are listed separately below, under their own regional councils. Roster checked against CCE's published accreditation actions on September 22, 2026.
